Grand Cache Exploration Drilling

  • SECTOR: Mining
  • LOCATION: Grand Cache, Alberta, Canada
  • DATE: 2009 - 2014
  • EQUIPMENT: Fraste MDXL and Fraste MDXL Max track drill rigs

Geotech participated in the exploration drilling programs at Grand Cache Coal from 2009 to 2014 on the property in Grand Cache, Alberta. In that time Geotech has drilled over 12,000 meters, including a recent program (2014) of 3,150 meters. Throughout the programs at Grand Cache Coal, a Fraste MDXL and Fraste MDXL Max track drill rig were used. The property site has a wide range of challenging terrain which was safely navigated utilizing the wireless remote-controlled Fraste rigs. Due to the compact design and mobility of the track rigs, drill pad sizes were kept to a minimum; reducing the overall footprint of the drill operations. Borehole depths of up to 450 meters rotary air blast and 250 meters PQ3 have been completed.

CHALLENGES

  • Mountainous terrain
  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Working in close proximity with an operational mine

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Geotech utilized a PQ3 air coring methodology; proving to be extremely efficient, capturing some of the highest coal recovery percentages recorded on the property.
