Geotechnical Project Estimator

    Duties: 

    The Estimator is accountable for acquiring sales for the company’s geotechnical services division, increasing the company’s sales revenue and client base while maintaining existing clients, and building solid long-term relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, government agencies, and other stakeholders. 

    The Estimator is responsible for pursuing, estimating, and closing sales opportunities and projects, preparing proposals and cost estimates and preparing/reviewing initial contractual agreements for Sales Manager approval. The GPE coordinates and communicates with internal company teams and departments to obtain appropriate information and assistance. 

    The role also has responsibility for developing and maintaining business relationships and increasing profitable sales revenue for the geotechnical division. 

    Estimator Responsibilities:

    • Develops estimates and proposals for the purpose of increasing business for the Geotechnical Division. 
    • Provides technical input into proposals and consulting with clients for project planning purposes. 
    • Carries out site visits on projects, as required. 
    • Develops relationships with new clients and continuously builds relationships with new and existing clients.
    • Works with internal teams to ensure that prerequisites (i.e., MSA’s, ISN, other pre-qualifications or getting on a vendor list) are completed in a timely manner.
    • Ensures all administrative requirements are completed on time and appropriate documentation is sent to the appropriate department for filing or follow-up (i.e., timesheets, business development tracking sheets, progress reports, etc.).
    • As required, communicate with the Sales Manager to ensure appropriate resources, budgets and support requirements are available and align with the company’s goals.
    • Identify and evaluate strategic opportunities for the company to the Sales Manager through primary and secondary research; this includes target market research and cold calling. 
    • Completes other duties as required (i.e., this position requires a high degree of flexibility and, from time to time, may require additional tasks to be completed outside the daily role described above). 
    • Operates within Geotech’s communities with the highest sense of integrity and social responsibility and complies with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

    Qualifications:

    • Must have 3+ years’ experience in site investigations, estimating, sales or geotechnical drilling. 
    • Post-secondary degree or technical diploma (i.e., C.Tech or AScT) in Geotechnical, Environmental Hydrogeological or Geological Engineering or related fields.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • Familiarity with instrument installations such as slope inclinometers, piezometers, monitoring wells and other subsurface instrumentation is considered a strong asset.
    • Advanced computer skills are required. 
    • Experience with ERP systems and/or Microsoft Dynamics Nav is a strong asset. 
    • Experience with proposals, estimates & work plans is an asset. 
    • Sales experience in mining, construction or related industries is an asset.
    • Driller certification in Geotechnical / Environmental or water well drilling is considered an asset.
    • Willingness to travel to prospective job sites as required throughout the year. 
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Works well under pressure and performs well within tight deadlines. 
    • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Hours of Work:

    Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Schedule will vary if travelling to project sites. Schedule is flexible to accommodate personal and professional commitments.

    Sandblaster/Painter

      Key Responsibilities

      • Sandblasting, painting, and finishing Geotech’s equipment, including but not limited to drill rigs, trucks, trailers and Morookas.
      • Prepare, clean, and refurbish surfaces through effective sandblasting techniques.
      • Determine the appropriate paint or paint formula.
      • Operate equipment used for industrial and automotive painting, including spray guns.
      • The ability to apply stencils and decals.
      • Order all required materials and supplies.
      • Cleaning and maintaining all equipment.
      • Identify all safety hazards and ensure proper ventilation.
      • Understanding and observing all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self, co-workers and Geotech property.

      Professional Experience / Qualifications

      • One or more years of experience in sandblasting or industrial/automotive painting.
      • High attention to detail.
      • Must possess and maintain a valid Canadian Driver’s License.
      • Must be physically fit, able to lift 30-50 lbs. to shoulder height 2-4 times/shift, and able to work primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
      • Forklift experience is considered an asset.

      $25.00 – $28.00 an hour. Based on Experience

      Experienced Geotechnical Driller

          Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator – Field based

            Geotech Drilling Group of Companies is actively seeking Health, Safety and Environment Coordinators (HSEC) to join our field based Exploration team. The HSEC is responsible for the overall organization of Health, Safety and Environment on two properties in Northwest BC and in Nunavut. Working directly with Geotech’s Site Supervisors, Foreman, Drillers, Driller Assistants, Support staff and Client representatives, the Field HSE Coordinator will ensure compliance with Geotech, Client and WSCC health and safety requirements.

            This position requires mature professional judgment, competency, and familiarity with Geotech, Client and Regulatory requirements while working in surface and underground diamond drilling environments.

            Hours of Work:

            21 days on 21 days off, fly-in fly-out. Flexibility with schedule as rotation is subject to change.

            Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

            • Assisting with new hire and pre-start safety training for employees new to the Hope Bay Mine site.
            • Conducting daily/ weekly safety meetings in alignment with Geotech’s HSE program.
            • Conducting inspections, audits, planned job observations in surface and underground drilling operations.
            • Developing and maintaining corrective action logs, based on leading and lagging indicators.
            • Providing regular feedback to Site Supervisors, VP. Operations and HST Manager on safety improvement opportunities.
            • Ensuring compliance with client and Geotech emergency response plans, including injury management, fire & spill management.
            • Conducting or assisting with investigation of Near Miss and Incidents.
            • Collaborate with Site Supervisor and HSE team to promote positive safety attitudes and develop new HSE initiatives.
            • Complete internal training & evaluations in line with training and experience.

            Qualifications:

            • 2+ years’ experience in a similar role, health and safety management at the field level preferred.
            • Familiarity with a variety of drilling techniques, equipment and mobilization strategy including tooling and inventory is a strong asset.

            Health, Safety and Environment Administrator

              Geotech Drilling Group of Companies is actively seeking a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Administrator to join our team at our head office in Prince George, BC. Under the direction of the Health, Safety and Training Manager, the HSE Administrator will be responsible for providing support to the HST Manager, Project Managers, Supervisors and workers at all levels of the organization. Depending on experience level, this position will provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of multiple projects along with maintaining and improving safety systems and culture across the Geotech Drilling Group of Companies.

              This role is based in Prince George, BC, and depending on experience could involve travel to field locations to conduct safety inspections and evaluate compliance with the HSE Program.

              Responsibilities:

              • Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of corporate health and safety policies and procedures and recommend improvement opportunities to Sr. Management.
              • Providing ongoing support to Project Managers, Supervisors, and workers in the implementation of Geotech’s safety standards in alignment with regulations and client requirements.
              • Participate in risk assessments, incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
              • Development of project-specific risk assessments and safety plans, including first aid assessments for projects in various industries, including mining, power generation and transmission, major infrastructure, mid-stream/ downstream oil and gas in multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
              • Conduct and/or assist with site inspections at various locations, document and communicate findings and develop and ensure corrective action plans are addressed in a timely manner.
              • Assist in management of workplace injuries in line with existing policies and develop return to work plans with applicable parties.
              • Maintain electronic safety system in support of remote field staff. Work with vendor to ensure improvements are occurring as required.
              • Maintain compliance in safety database systems such as ISNetworld, Complyworks, Avetta and Cognibox and maintain client specific prequalification requirements.
