Geotechnical Drill Assistant

    Key Responsibilities

    • Continuously prepare and supply the driller with tooling and materials necessary to maintain the drilling operations.
    • Handle drill rods and casing, core tubes and core samples.
    • Maintain and organize appropriate inventory levels of necessary materials, supplies and tooling for the drill rig and support vehicles.
    • Assist the Driller, client and other team members where required.
    • Regular and repetitive lifts of 50-90 lbs.

    Professional Experience / Qualifications

    • Must maintain and possess a valid Class 7 or 5 Driver’s Licence.
    • Have 1-3 years experience in geotechnical or environmental drilling is an asset.
    • Have the mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair small equipment an asset.
    • Complete and pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test.
    • Have experience working in the field, in remote and/or varied weather conditions for extended periods of time.

    Compensation

    $24.00 – $27.00 per hour

    Yard Manager

      We are actively seeking a Yard Manager in Prince George, BC. In this pivotal role, you’ll be a key player in this fast-paced environment, ensuring efficient, organized, and safe operations in the Geotech Yard.

      Yard Manager

      The Yard Manager (YM) is responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks in a fast-paced working environment. These tasks vary from general yard organization to filling requisitions and assisting with loading equipment for projects. The YM is required to show initiative, have a positive attitude and the have the ability to multitask effectively. This individual will take accountability for the efficient operation of the yard and its staff.

      This position requires strong time management, organizational skill, and the willingness to adapt to the constant changes of the drilling industry. You must be flexible in nature and be able to work collaboratively with many stakeholders, while meeting deadlines and expectations of the role.

      Location: Prince George, BC.

      YM Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Management of yard by maintaining cleanliness and order.
      • Delegate tasks to yard technicians to ensure day to day activities are performed efficiently & effectively.
      • Review and update requisitions for completeness, accuracy and that inventory quantities are satisfactory.
      • Ensure requisitions are appropriately staged and organized.
      • Ensure incoming loads are documented, inspected for quality and proper work orders are created for equipment to be tested, repaired, tagged for use, and inventoried (e.g., Review SLK kits and restock with supplies).
      • Ensure outgoing loads are logically organized, complete, and secure for transport.
      • Ensure quality of outgoing loads and report all defects or errors to the QA/QC Manager.
      • Repair/maintain downhole tooling.
      • Computer related tasks as necessary.
      • Maintain constant communication with yard technicians and operations staff.
      • Exert excellent prioritizing skill to meet and exceed project timelines.

      Qualifications:

      • 2+ years experience in an industrial management setting, drilling industry preferred (Construction and Mining industries also considered assets).
      • Experience managing and coordinating junior staff and their tasks.
      • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
      • Strong verbal, written, and communication skills.
      • Comfortability in a fast-paced environment with ever changing demands.
      • Intermediate use of computer software including Microsoft Outlook, MS Word and Excel. (SALUS and Microsoft Dynamics Nav experience are considered assets).
      • Flexible nature and a positive outlook.

      Hours of Work: 8:30-5pm Monday to Friday, 30-minute unpaid lunch. Overtime opportunities as needed.

      Salary: $30.00 – $35.00/hr based on experience and qualifications.

        Exploration Drill Assistant

        We’re seeking Drill Assistants with a minimum of 2 years of experience on Underground exploration projects, coupled with at least 1 year of hands-on experience working at remote sites.         Anticipated start date: October 2024

        Project Duration: 3 years

        Rotation Schedule: 3 weeks on 3 weeks off

        Geotechnical Drilling Supervisor

          Geotechnical Supervisor

          Reporting to the Project Manager (PM), the Supervisor directs and manages all on-site drillers, drill assistants, support staff, subcontractors, and equipment. The Supervisor enforces Geotech policies, procedures, and safety standards while meeting project requirements and deadlines.

          Key Responsibilities

          • Supervise and manage drill crews to ensure the successful operation and completion of drilling programs.
          • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and employees on site.
          • Conduct daily safety meetings with crew and clients.
          • Communicate with the PM daily or as frequently as the project requires to be successful.
          • Utilize technical knowledge of drill rigs to assist in troubleshooting and specialized tasks.
          • Know, understand, comply and enforce HSE requirements to all site employees and subcontractors.
          • Coordinate, review and deliver employee training as trained to do.
          • Strategically mentor and identify high potential employees.
          • Complete all incident reports and investigations with assistance from HSE staff
          • Prepare daily reports of all drilling activities.
          • Accommodate and facilitate change at the request of the client, company or if better/best practices are determined.
          • Complete routine drill audits planned job observations (PJO’s) and pre and post hole inspections.
          • Monitor instruments such as pressure gauges, feed or weight indicators as well as observe the volume, colour and consistency of the returns from the hole.
          • Employ various sampling techniques according to project and client requirements.
          • Record keeping as required/requested by the client and or company.
          • Operate and troubleshoot drill and ancillary equipment, including, but not limited to; trucks, support vehicles, pumps, heaters, compressors, mud re-circulation systems, etc.
          • Supervise drill assistant and the drill crew to ensure compliance with HSE requirements.
          • Ensure drill assistants maintains and organizes equipment, supplies and tooling for the drill rig and support vehicles.

          Professional Experience / Qualifications

          • Must maintain and possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
          • Must have 5-10 years experience in geotechnical or environmental drilling.
          • Must be comfortable with computers and technology, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
          • Have the mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair small equipment.
          • Complete and pass a pre-employment and client required pre-access drug & alcohol test.

          Education

          • High School Diploma or equivalent.
          • ITA Certification is an asset.

          Only applicants living or wiling to relocate to the Prince George, BC, area will be considered.

          Compensation

          As this position is project based, annual compensation is based on hours worked and projects completed but equates to approximately $140,000 to $160,000, commensurate with experience.
