Geothermal Drilling
Geothermal Drilling allows access to capturing the earth’s natural heat, which is relatively stable. By using Geothermal heat pumps, this system can be used for heating or cooling. Water or other liquids are put through continuous loops that are buried vertically or horizontally next to the building. For cooling during hot weather, the heat is picked up by the fluid and transferred into the earth. Geothermal heat pumps use little electricity and are environmentally friendly. Geothermal saves up to 70% energy as opposed to natural gas, electric, propane or oil.
Heat pumps are more efficient and low in maintenance, having fewer mechanical components. The geothermal unit itself has a 30year lifespan compared to the 15-year life span of a furnace. The use of geothermal heating also eliminates 6 tonnes of CO2 emissions from the homes.
What Geotech Drilling Services can provide:
Geotech Drilling specializes in drilling and installing loops. Typically it takes 4-5 holes per home drilled at various depths dependant on the area. The holes are a specific distance apart collaborated by Engineers. Loops are then installed into the holes. The loops are made of two high-density polyethylene tubes, which are connected by U-bends that are heat fused. Loops have a life expectancy of hundreds of years. Once these loops are placed in the hole the hole is then injected with grout, which surrounds the loops. The grout acts as a conduit between the earth’s heat and the fluid held within the loops. The grout also protects the loops and adds stability to the hole. Each looped hole is then connected vertically. See diagrams below. |
