Geotech Afrique – West Africa
Having identified significant drilling opportunities within West Africa, Geotech established an operation center in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in 2014 to service the West African market. The operation center includes; branch, project and health and safety managers, accountants, administration, and field personnel, capable of supporting multiple drill programs in the region. Ninety percent of Geotech Afrique’s regional workforce are national Burkina Faso citizens, maintaining Geotech Afrique’s corporate philosophy of training and employing personnel from and within the regions we work. Further, all personnel are trained to Geotech’s corporate standards of health and safety and competency, consistently adhered to for Geotech personnel participating at any project site globally.
Geotech Afrique commenced active drilling operations in early 2015, with higher than projected drilling averages, while maintaining safe production throughout their first program.
Geotech Afrique primarily offers exploration coring drilling services to mining clients in the region, including PQ through BQ core drilling.
Beyond coring drilling, Geotech also offers services for infrastructure investigations to obtain information required by clients including boreholes completed with various in-situ tests and installations. Testing and installation techniques include, but are not limited to;
- Packer tests (pneumatic and hydraulic)
- Shelby tubes
- Falling Head Tests
- Core orientation
- Monitoring wells
- Vibrating wires
- Slope inclinometer casings
- De-watering pumps
- Nested installations
Geotech Afrique services the West African market with one trailer mounted Zinex A5 core drill and one skid mounted Zinex A5 core drill. These drill rigs are supported with a D7 Cat bulldozer which has the capacity to mobilize the drills in a safe and efficient manner, specifically during periods of precipitation or challenging topographic conditions.
These drills are capable of completing deep exploration hole drilling (up to 1400 meters NQ) while remaining versatile for shallow hole programs. The Zinex A5’s robust design can be used in the most remote environments with reliability and durability to complete drilling in challenging conditions.
Geotech Afrique crews have completed 85 holes totaling over 8,000 meters for Roxgold, a gold exploration and development company with a key asset in the Hounde greenstone region of Burkina Faso. Daily meter totals have reached 150 meters over a 24 hour period with a single drill.
Throughout this program the drill crews have utilized the HQ coring techniques through the deeper saprolite conditions & NQ diamond coring methodology in more competent rock.
